About this exercise

A seated hip mobility and strengthening exercise that targets the internal rotators of the hip, including the adductors and anterior glute fibres, using a resistance band. Developing hip internal rotation range and strength supports knee health, gait symmetry, and overall lower-body movement quality.

How to Perform

  • Sit upright on a bench or chair with your feet flat on the floor, hip-width apart
  • Place a short resistance band around both ankles or just above the knees, providing resistance to inward knee movement
  • Keep your foot planted and rotate one knee inward against the band resistance
  • Move the knee as far inward as possible while keeping your foot stationary and pelvis level
  • Pause briefly at the end of the range of motion
  • Slowly return the knee to the starting position, controlling the band tension
  • Complete all reps on one side, then switch legs
