About this exercise

The band overhead triceps extension uses a resistance band anchored below or behind you to train the long head of the triceps through a full overhead range of motion, making it an effective and joint-friendly isolation exercise.

How to Perform

  • Anchor a resistance band low behind you or step on it with one foot
  • Grasp the other end of the band with both hands and raise your arms overhead, elbows pointing toward the ceiling
  • Stand tall with a slight forward lean and core braced
  • Keeping your upper arms stationary beside your head, extend your elbows to straighten your arms overhead
  • Squeeze the triceps fully at the top
  • Slowly lower your hands back behind your head to the starting position under control
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
