Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Band Lying Skull Crusher.

MediumTriceps

About this exercise

A lying triceps extension performed with a resistance band using a reverse (overhand) grip, mimicking the skull crusher movement pattern. The reverse grip shifts additional stress to the lateral head of the triceps and the forearm extensors compared to a standard grip.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back on the floor and anchor the resistance band under your upper back or hold it with your feet on the floor
  • Grasp the band with both hands using an overhand (pronated) grip, arms extended straight above your chest
  • Keep your upper arms perpendicular to the floor and stationary throughout
  • Slowly bend your elbows, lowering your hands toward your forehead against the band's resistance
  • Pause briefly at the bottom, then press back up to the fully extended position
  • Avoid letting your elbows flare out to the sides during the movement
