About this exercise

The band jackknife sit-up adds resistance to the classic jackknife by looping a band around the feet and holding the other end overhead. As the body folds to bring the hands toward the feet, the band provides extra tension that intensifies the contraction through the entire abdominal wall.

How to Perform

  • Loop the resistance band around both feet and lie flat on your back on a mat
  • Hold the other end of the band with both hands and extend your arms overhead
  • Keep your legs straight and your arms extended as the starting position
  • Simultaneously raise your legs and lift your upper body off the mat, reaching your hands toward your feet
  • Allow your body to fold at the hips, forming a V shape at the top
  • Hold briefly, squeezing your abdominals at the peak of the movement
  • Slowly lower both your legs and upper body back to the starting position
  • Maintain control throughout — avoid letting momentum drive the movement
