About this exercise

The Band Incline Alternating Hammer Curl is a unilateral biceps exercise performed seated on an incline bench with a resistance band and a neutral grip. Alternating arms allows you to focus on each side individually while the incline position maximises the stretch on the long head of the biceps.

How to Perform

  • Set an adjustable bench to a moderate incline (45–60°) and anchor the resistance band under the bench feet or beneath the seat
  • Sit back on the bench and hold one end of the band in each hand with palms facing each other, arms hanging fully extended
  • Keeping your upper arm stationary, curl one hand upward toward your shoulder with a neutral (thumbs-up) grip
  • Squeeze the biceps at the top, then slowly lower back to full extension
  • Repeat the curl with the opposite arm
  • Continue alternating arms for the desired number of repetitions per side
