About this exercise

The Band Decline Sit-Up combines the increased range of motion of a decline bench with the added resistance of a band to intensify the load on the rectus abdominis throughout the movement. The band provides progressive tension as you sit up, making the hardest part of the exercise harder and improving overall abdominal strength.

How to Perform

  • Secure a resistance band to a low anchor point and lie on a decline bench with your feet hooked under the pad
  • Hold the band with both hands at your chest or extended overhead, depending on desired difficulty
  • Brace your core and curl your torso up toward your thighs, pulling against the band's resistance
  • Continue until your torso is upright or slightly past vertical
  • Pause briefly at the top to fully contract the abs
  • Slowly lower yourself back to the starting position under control
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
