About this exercise

A unilateral stretch performed with the arm raised and bent overhead to target the rotator cuff muscles and posterior shoulder. It improves shoulder mobility and is commonly used as a warm-up or cooldown for pressing and overhead movements.

How to Perform

  • Stand or sit upright with your spine in a neutral position
  • Raise one arm overhead and bend the elbow so your hand reaches toward your upper back
  • Use your opposite hand to gently press the raised elbow further behind your head
  • Feel the stretch in the back and side of your shoulder
  • Keep your neck relaxed and avoid leaning to the side
  • Hold the stretch for the desired duration, breathing steadily
  • Switch arms and repeat on the other side
