About this exercise

The Alternate Sprinter Lunge is a dynamic lower-body exercise that mimics the explosive drive phase of sprinting. You alternate between deep forward lunge positions with a powerful knee-drive upward, training the quads, glutes, and hip flexors while elevating the heart rate.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright with feet hip-width apart and core engaged
  • Step one foot back into a deep lunge, lowering your back knee toward the floor
  • Drive explosively off your front foot, bringing the back knee up high toward your chest
  • Land softly with the opposite foot back in the lunge position
  • Continue alternating legs in a controlled but powerful rhythm
  • Keep your torso upright and arms driving in opposition to your legs throughout
