About this exercise

The alternate single leg wall sit is an isometric and dynamic quad exercise that builds unilateral leg strength and endurance. Starting from a standard wall-sit position, you alternate lifting one foot off the floor to increase the challenge on each thigh independently.

How to Perform

  • Stand with your back flat against a wall, then slide down until your thighs are parallel to the floor and your knees are at 90 degrees
  • Press your back firmly against the wall and engage your core throughout the exercise
  • Slowly lift one foot a few centimetres off the floor, shifting your weight onto the other leg
  • Hold for a moment, then lower that foot and lift the opposite foot in the same manner
  • Continue alternating legs in a controlled rhythm for the desired number of repetitions per side
  • To finish, press through your heels and slide back up the wall to standing
