Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Adductors Stretch (Sagittal Plane).

About this exercise

The Adductors Stretch in the Sagittal Plane targets the inner thigh muscles through a forward-lunge-style position, elongating the adductors along the front-to-back axis of movement. Performing the stretch in the sagittal plane places a unique lengthening stimulus on the adductors compared to lateral or rotational variants.

How to Perform

  • Start in a tall kneeling or standing position with feet together
  • Step one foot forward into a lunge, keeping the rear knee on the floor or the rear leg straight
  • Shift your hips forward and downward to feel a stretch along the inner thigh of the rear leg
  • Keep your torso upright and your front knee tracking over your toes
  • Hold the stretch position, breathing deeply to encourage relaxation and increased range of motion
  • Release and switch sides, repeating the same process on the other leg
