About this exercise

The Above Head Chest Stretch is a simple static stretch that opens the chest and front shoulder by clasping the hands overhead and pressing the arms back. It counteracts the forward-rounding posture common from desk work or pressing exercises.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with feet shoulder-width apart
  • Interlace your fingers and raise both arms directly above your head with palms facing upward
  • Gently press your arms back and slightly behind your head, feeling the stretch across the chest and front of the shoulders
  • Hold the position, breathing deeply to allow the muscles to relax further
  • Release slowly and repeat as needed
