90 Degree Side Heel Touch

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the 90 Degree Side Heel Touch.

EasyObliques

About this exercise

The 90 Degree Heel Touch is a floor-based oblique exercise performed with the legs raised to a 90-degree angle. From this position you crunch side to side, alternately reaching each hand toward the corresponding heel to target the obliques and the entire abdominal wall. The elevated leg position increases the challenge compared to a flat-floor heel touch.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back and raise your legs to a 90-degree angle with your hips, keeping your knees slightly bent
  • Place your arms flat on the floor beside your torso with palms facing down
  • Crunch your upper body to the right and reach your right hand toward your right heel
  • Return to centre, then crunch to the left and reach your left hand toward your left heel
  • Keep your lower back pressed gently into the floor throughout the movement
  • Continue alternating sides for the desired number of repetitions
