About this exercise

The 45-degree side bend is performed on a hyperextension bench oriented sideways, using the angled pad to isolate the obliques through a full range of lateral flexion. It is an effective accessory movement for building lateral core strength and improving waist definition.

How to Perform

  • Position yourself sideways on the 45-degree hyperextension bench with one hip resting on the pad and your feet secured under the ankle rollers
  • Cross your arms over your chest or place your hands lightly behind your head
  • Allow your upper body to hang down toward the floor in a controlled manner
  • Contract your obliques to raise your torso upward until your body forms a straight line from head to feet
  • Hold the top position briefly, then slowly lower back to the starting position
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching to the other
