About this exercise

The Weighted Stretch Lunge is a lower-body exercise that combines a deep lunge with a deliberate hold at the bottom, loading the quads and glutes while simultaneously stretching the hip flexors of the rear leg. Holding dumbbells adds progressive overload and improves balance.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall holding a dumbbell in each hand at your sides
  • Step one foot forward into a wide lunge, lowering your back knee toward the floor
  • Sink deep into the lunge to feel a stretch through the hip flexor of the trailing leg
  • Hold the bottom position for a moment, keeping your torso upright and core engaged
  • Drive through your front heel to return to standing
  • Alternate legs each rep or complete all reps on one side before switching
