About this exercise

The Twisting Crunch with Straight Arms is a bodyweight core exercise that combines a crunch with a rotational reach, targeting the rectus abdominis and obliques simultaneously. Keeping the arms straight increases the lever arm, amplifying the demand on the abs.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back with knees bent and feet flat on the floor
  • Extend your arms straight and raise them above your chest
  • Curl your upper body off the floor while simultaneously rotating and reaching toward one knee
  • Hold the twisted position briefly at the top, then lower in a controlled manner
  • Alternate the rotation on each repetition, reaching to the opposite knee each time
