About this exercise

The twist push-up is a bodyweight chest exercise that adds a rotational reach at the top of a standard push-up, engaging the obliques and core in addition to the chest, triceps, and shoulders for a more complete upper-body challenge.

How to Perform

  • Begin in a high plank position with hands slightly wider than shoulder-width and body straight
  • Lower your chest toward the floor in a controlled push-up
  • As you press back up, rotate your torso and raise one arm toward the ceiling, turning your body sideways
  • Hold the side plank position briefly, then return your hand to the floor
  • Perform another push-up and rotate to the opposite side on the next rep
  • Keep your core tight and hips level throughout the rotation
  • Alternate sides with each rep for the desired total count
