About this exercise

The tuck jump is a plyometric exercise that develops explosive lower-body power and cardiovascular conditioning. From a standing position, the athlete jumps as high as possible while driving the knees toward the chest at the peak of flight, then lands softly and immediately repeats the movement.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and knees slightly bent
  • Swing your arms back for momentum, then explosively jump upward as high as possible
  • At the peak of the jump, drive both knees up toward your chest
  • Hold the tuck position briefly at the top, then extend your legs to prepare for landing
  • Land softly on the balls of your feet with knees bent to absorb the impact
  • Immediately load into the next jump without pausing, maintaining a continuous rhythm

About the Tuck Jump

The Tuck Jump is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
