About this exercise

The tuck crunch is a beginner-friendly bodyweight ab exercise where both the knees and upper body are brought toward each other simultaneously from a lying position. It reduces hip flexor strain compared to straight-leg movements while effectively targeting the rectus abdominis.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet lifted off the floor so your thighs are at roughly 90 degrees
  • Place your hands lightly behind your head or cross them over your chest
  • Simultaneously curl your upper body forward and draw your knees toward your chest
  • Squeeze your abs at the top of the movement
  • Slowly reverse the motion, extending your legs slightly and lowering your torso — keep feet off the floor throughout
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
