About this exercise

Swimmer Kicks is a prone bodyweight exercise that mimics the arm and leg motion of a swimming stroke. Lying face down, the athlete alternately raises the opposite arm and leg in a flutter-kick pattern, developing lower-back endurance, glute activation, and posterior-chain stability.

How to Perform

  • Lie face down on the floor with your arms extended overhead and your legs straight
  • Engage your core and glutes to stabilize your spine
  • Simultaneously lift your right arm and left leg a few inches off the floor
  • Lower them back down and immediately lift your left arm and right leg
  • Continue alternating in a smooth, controlled flutter-kick rhythm
  • Keep your head in a neutral position, looking slightly down throughout
