About this exercise

A bodyweight rowing exercise performed with a suspension trainer that builds upper back width and thickness while developing core stability. Difficulty is easily adjusted by changing your body angle — the more horizontal your body, the harder the row.

How to Perform

  • Adjust the suspension trainer handles to roughly waist height and face the anchor point
  • Grip both handles and walk your feet forward so your body leans back at an angle
  • Keep your body in a straight line from head to heels with core braced
  • Pull your chest up toward the handles by driving your elbows back and squeezing the shoulder blades
  • Hold the contracted position briefly at the top
  • Lower yourself under control back to the starting position with arms fully extended
  • Keep your hips in line with your torso throughout — do not let them sag
