About this exercise

Suspension trainer prone Ys are a upper-back and shoulder exercise performed face-down while holding the suspension straps. The arms trace a Y shape overhead, targeting the lower trapezius, upper traps, and rear deltoids while demanding core stability to maintain a rigid body position.

How to Perform

  • Set the suspension handles low and hold them with an overhand grip
  • Lean your body forward and downward until you are roughly horizontal, face down toward the floor
  • Extend your arms fully in front and overhead to form a Y shape, thumbs pointing up
  • Keeping the body rigid, raise your arms upward and slightly out to form the Y
  • Squeeze the shoulder blades together and hold briefly at the top
  • Lower your arms back to the start position with control
