About this exercise

The Suspended Push-Up is a push-up variation performed with the hands gripping gymnastic rings or a suspension trainer, adding instability that intensifies core activation and demands greater stabiliser recruitment in the shoulders and chest compared to a floor push-up.

How to Perform

  • Set gymnastic rings or a suspension trainer to a height where your body forms a plank when gripping them with arms extended
  • Grip the handles and step back so your body is at an angle — the more horizontal, the harder the exercise
  • Brace your core and keep your body straight from head to heels
  • Bend your elbows and lower your chest toward the handles in a controlled manner
  • At the bottom, keep the rings close to your chest and your elbows at roughly 45 degrees from your torso
  • Press back up to full arm extension, squeezing the chest at the top
  • Keep the rings as stable as possible throughout the movement

About the Ring Push-Up

The Ring Push-Up is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
