About this exercise

The Sumo Crab Walk is a lateral movement exercise performed in a wide sumo squat stance that targets the inner thighs, glutes, and hips. Staying low throughout the movement increases time under tension and challenges hip stability and mobility.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet wider than shoulder-width apart and toes pointed slightly outward
  • Lower into a sumo squat position, keeping your chest up and back straight
  • Shift your weight slightly and step laterally with one foot, maintaining the squat depth
  • Follow with the other foot to return to the wide stance
  • Continue walking laterally for the desired distance or time, then reverse direction
  • Keep your knees tracking over your toes throughout the movement
