About this exercise

The Stepback Opposite Crunch combines a reverse lunge with a standing rotational crunch toward the opposite side, creating a dynamic movement that challenges the obliques, core, and lower body simultaneously. It develops coordination, balance, and rotational core strength.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright with feet hip-width apart and hands lightly behind your head
  • Step one foot back into a reverse lunge, lowering your back knee toward the floor
  • As you lower into the lunge, rotate your torso and crunch your opposite elbow toward your raised front knee
  • Push through the front foot to return to standing, bringing your feet together
  • Repeat on the same side or alternate legs as prescribed
  • Keep your core engaged throughout and your front knee tracking over your toes during the lunge
