About this exercise

The Stepback Flap is a rhythmic cardio drill combining a step backward with a simultaneous lateral arm flap, coordinating lower and upper body movements to elevate heart rate and improve body coordination. It is a low-impact option suitable for warm-ups or active recovery circuits.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright with feet together and arms at your sides
  • Step one foot back behind you while simultaneously sweeping both arms out laterally to shoulder height (flap)
  • Return the stepped foot forward and lower your arms back to your sides
  • Alternate stepping back with each foot while performing the arm flap
  • Keep a steady, rhythmic pace and stay light on your feet
  • Maintain an upright posture and engage your core throughout
