About this exercise

A standing lateral stretch bending the torso to one side while the arm reaches overhead toward the opposite side. The overhead reach deepens the stretch along the obliques and the whole side of the trunk.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with feet hip-width apart and shoulders relaxed
  • Raise your right arm overhead and bend the elbow, resting your hand behind your head or neck
  • Place your left hand on your left hip for support
  • Exhale and lean your upper body smoothly to the left, keeping hips level and both feet flat
  • Feel the stretch along the right side of your torso and obliques
  • Hold briefly, then inhale and return to an upright position
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching to the other
