Wall Scapular Push-Up

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Wall Scapular Push-Up.

EasyTrapeziusMiddle back

About this exercise

A rehab-friendly wall exercise that isolates scapular protraction and retraction by pressing against a wall with straight arms, directly targeting the serratus anterior, rhomboids, and mid-trapezius. It improves shoulder blade control and is commonly used to correct scapular winging and build a foundation for overhead pressing health.

How to Perform

  • Stand facing a wall at arm's length with arms extended at shoulder height, palms flat on the surface
  • Keep your elbows straight throughout the entire movement
  • Let your chest sink slightly toward the wall by drawing your shoulder blades together (retraction)
  • Press firmly through your palms to push your shoulder blades apart and drive your upper back away from the wall (protraction)
  • Repeat in a slow, controlled rhythm, focusing on isolating the full scapular range of motion
