About this exercise

A standing lateral crunch variation where you slide one hand down the outside of the thigh while performing a side-bending contraction of the obliques. The movement isolates the lateral core without loading the spine under heavy compression.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet hip-width apart, arms at your sides
  • Place one hand behind your head or keep both arms by your sides
  • Brace your core and slide the working hand down the outside of the same-side thigh by laterally flexing your torso to that side
  • Feel a contraction in the oblique on the side you are bending toward
  • Return to an upright position in a controlled manner
  • Complete all reps on one side, then switch to the other
