About this exercise

The squat jack is a plyometric exercise that merges the jumping-jack foot pattern with a squat, landing in a wide squat position each time the feet spread out. It builds lower-body power and cardiovascular endurance simultaneously.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet together and arms at your sides
  • Jump your feet out to shoulder-width or slightly wider while simultaneously lowering into a squat position
  • Touch your hands together in front of you or place them behind your head at the bottom
  • Explosively jump your feet back together and return to standing
  • Immediately repeat the movement in a continuous, rhythmic pattern
  • Keep your chest up and knees tracking over your toes throughout each squat
  • Land softly with slightly bent knees to absorb impact
