About this exercise

Sprinting is a high-intensity cardiovascular exercise that involves running at maximum or near-maximum speed over a short distance or duration. It powerfully trains the cardiovascular system, develops explosive leg power, and burns a high number of calories in a short time.

How to Perform

  • Start in a standing or athletic stance with one foot slightly forward
  • Drive explosively off the ground, pumping your arms vigorously at your sides
  • Lean forward slightly from the ankles as you accelerate
  • Drive your knees high and push off powerfully with each stride
  • Maintain maximum effort for the desired distance or duration
  • Gradually decelerate to a jog or walk to cool down safely

About the Sprint

The Sprint is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
