About this exercise

The Sphinx Pose Opening is a prone chest-opening stretch performed by lying face down and propping the upper body on the forearms. It elongates the abdominals, opens the chest and shoulders, and gently extends the thoracic and lumbar spine.

How to Perform

  • Lie face down on the floor with your legs extended behind you
  • Place your forearms flat on the floor, elbows aligned under your shoulders
  • Press your forearms down and lift your chest, drawing your shoulder blades back and together
  • Let your chest open wide and breathe deeply, feeling the stretch across your chest and front shoulders
  • Keep your hips and legs relaxed and grounded throughout
  • Hold for the desired duration, then slowly lower back down
