About this exercise

A gentle prone back extension where you lie face down and prop your upper body on your forearms, creating a mild lumbar arch. It effectively decompresses the lower spine, stretches the abdominals, and is a foundational mobility and rehabilitation drill.

How to Perform

  • Lie face down on the floor or a mat with your legs extended behind you
  • Place your forearms flat on the floor, elbows directly beneath your shoulders
  • Press your forearms and the tops of your feet into the floor
  • Gently lift your chest and arch your lower back, keeping your hips on the floor
  • Lengthen through the crown of your head and relax your glutes and lower back
  • Hold the position, breathing steadily for the desired duration
  • Lower your chest back down to the floor to release
