About this exercise

A standing stretch that targets the lower back by hinging forward at the hips and inclining the torso toward the floor. The controlled forward slope decompresses the lumbar spine and gently lengthens the lower back muscles and hamstrings.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with feet hip-width apart and a slight bend in the knees
  • Place your hands on your hips and inhale to prepare
  • Exhale and hinge forward at the hips, letting your torso slope toward the floor
  • Reach your hands toward your shins or the floor, keeping the back long
  • Hold the stretch and breathe deeply, feeling the release in your lower back
  • Slowly return to standing by engaging your glutes and core
