About this exercise

A seated core exercise that isolates the oblique muscles by performing lateral crunching motions while balancing in a reclined seated position. The elevated feet increase the demand on the abs throughout the movement.

How to Perform

  • Sit on the floor with your knees bent and feet slightly elevated off the ground
  • Lean back slightly to engage your core and place your hands lightly behind your head
  • Keep your torso upright and your lower back off the floor
  • Crunch laterally to one side, bringing your elbow toward your hip on the same side
  • Return to the centre with control and repeat to the other side
  • Keep the movement deliberate and avoid pulling on your neck
