MediumGlutesQuadriceps

About this exercise

Side step swipes are a dynamic lateral agility drill that combines lateral shuffling with a low swipe of the hand toward the floor, mimicking a sport-specific defensive or athletic movement. The exercise raises the heart rate while training lateral power, coordination, and hip stability. It is commonly used in conditioning circuits and sports warm-ups.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent, and weight on the balls of your feet
  • Step laterally to one side, lowering into a shallow squat as you swipe the opposite hand toward the floor near the foot you stepped toward
  • Push off the foot to quickly step laterally in the opposite direction and repeat the swipe on the other side
  • Keep the chest up and the back flat as you hinge slightly at the hips with each swipe
  • Move with a controlled but brisk pace, alternating sides continuously
  • Maintain core engagement throughout to support the lateral movement
