About this exercise

The Side Plank Pull is a unilateral core exercise performed in a side plank position. While holding the side plank, you perform a rowing motion with the top arm, simultaneously challenging lateral core stability and upper-body pulling strength.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your side and prop yourself up on one forearm with feet stacked or staggered
  • Lift your hips off the floor to form a straight line from head to heels
  • Extend your top arm in front of you at shoulder height
  • Pull your top elbow back toward your hip in a controlled rowing motion
  • Pause briefly, squeezing the obliques and rear shoulder
  • Return your arm to the extended position with control
  • Complete all reps, then switch sides
