About this exercise

The Side Hip on Parallel Bars is a bodyweight core exercise where you support yourself on parallel bars and raise your legs sideways, intensely targeting the obliques and lateral core. It requires solid upper-body strength to stabilize the support position.

How to Perform

  • Grip the parallel bars and press yourself up to a straight-arm support position, arms fully extended
  • Keep your body upright and core braced
  • Tilt your pelvis and raise both legs laterally to one side, contracting the obliques
  • Hold briefly at the peak of the movement
  • Lower your legs back to the center in a controlled manner
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps, then switch to the opposite side
  • Avoid swinging or using momentum — the movement should be slow and controlled
