MediumQuadricepsObliques

About this exercise

The Side Crunch Squat combines a squat with an alternating lateral crunch, targeting the obliques and quadriceps simultaneously. As you rise from the squat, you bring one knee and the opposite elbow together in a side crunch, adding an oblique contraction to a lower body strength movement.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet slightly wider than shoulder-width apart and hands behind your head
  • Lower into a squat by bending your knees and pushing your hips back
  • As you stand up from the squat, shift your weight onto your left foot
  • Bring your right knee up and to the left while crunching your right elbow toward it
  • Feel the oblique contraction on the right side
  • Return to the starting position and descend into the next squat
  • This time crunch to the right, bringing the left knee and left elbow together
  • Alternate sides with each rep, maintaining a controlled tempo
