About this exercise

An advanced bodyweight single-leg squat where the rear foot is held behind the body while squatting down on the front leg, requiring exceptional quad strength, hip mobility, and balance. The bent rear leg acts as a depth guide as the knee approaches the floor.

How to Perform

  • Stand on one leg and reach back with the same-side hand to grip the rear ankle, keeping the knee bent behind you
  • Raise your free arm forward for balance
  • Slowly squat down on the standing leg, lowering the rear knee toward the floor without touching it
  • Keep the torso upright and the standing heel flat on the floor throughout the descent
  • Press through the standing heel to return to the upright position
  • Complete all reps on one leg before switching sides
