About this exercise

Shoulder transverse extension moves the arm horizontally backward from a forward or neutral position, working in the transverse plane. It activates the posterior deltoid and upper back musculature, improving horizontal pulling mobility and posterior shoulder awareness.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall and raise your arms to shoulder height in front of you, parallel to the floor
  • Keep a slight bend in the elbows throughout the movement
  • Slowly drive both arms backward and outward in the horizontal plane as far as range allows
  • Squeeze the rear deltoids and upper back at the end of the movement
  • Return the arms to the starting position in a controlled manner and repeat
