About this exercise

Shoulder extension is a fundamental mobility drill that moves the arm backward behind the body, working through the full range of motion at the shoulder joint. It targets the posterior deltoid and supporting musculature while stretching the anterior shoulder structures.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with feet shoulder-width apart and arms at your sides
  • Keep your elbow straight and slowly swing one arm backward as far as comfortable
  • Pause briefly at the end range, feeling a gentle stretch across the front of the shoulder
  • Return the arm to the starting position in a controlled manner
  • Alternate sides or complete all reps on one side before switching
