About this exercise

A gentle seated mobility exercise that improves ankle range of motion and flexibility in the calves and surrounding muscles. Regular ankle stretching can reduce stiffness and improve balance and athletic performance.

How to Perform

  • Sit on the floor with legs extended in front of you or sit on a chair
  • Cross one ankle over the opposite knee so the foot is accessible
  • Hold the foot with both hands and gently flex and point the ankle up and down
  • Rotate the ankle slowly in full circles, both clockwise and counterclockwise
  • Hold any end-range position where you feel a stretch for a few seconds
  • Repeat on the other ankle
