Scissors Jump

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Scissors Jump.

MediumGlutesQuadriceps

About this exercise

Explosive plyometric exercise in which you alternate legs in a rapid scissoring action — like a jumping lunge — to develop lower body power, coordination, and cardiovascular endurance. The continuous alternating pattern keeps the heart rate elevated while loading the quads and glutes.

How to Perform

  • Stand in a split stance with your right foot forward and left foot back, both knees slightly bent
  • Drive through both feet to jump explosively off the ground
  • While in the air, scissor your legs so the left foot moves forward and the right foot moves back
  • Land softly in the split stance on the opposite side, bending your knees to absorb impact
  • Immediately explode upward again to switch legs
  • Keep your torso upright and arms swinging naturally for balance
  • Continue alternating for the prescribed duration

About the Scissors Jump

The Scissors Jump is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
