About this exercise

The Russian twist plus is an advanced variation of the standard Russian twist that adds a leg extension at the end of each rotation to increase core demand. Seated in a V-sit position, you rotate the torso side to side while alternately extending your legs, challenging the obliques, abs, and hip flexors simultaneously.

How to Perform

  • Sit on the floor with knees bent and feet hovering a few inches off the ground, leaning your torso back to a 45-degree angle
  • Clasp your hands together in front of your chest or extend your arms forward
  • Rotate your torso to the right and touch your hands toward the floor beside your right hip
  • As you return to center, extend both legs out straight and hold momentarily
  • Rotate to the left and touch your hands toward the floor beside your left hip
  • Bring your legs back to the bent position as you return to center
  • Continue alternating sides while keeping your core braced throughout
