About this exercise

Rope climbing is a full-body pulling exercise that builds grip strength, forearm endurance, and a powerful back. It also challenges the arms and core as you haul your bodyweight up the rope.

How to Perform

  • Stand at the base of the rope and grip it firmly above your head with both hands
  • Pull yourself up using your arms while wrapping the rope around one leg for support
  • Clamp the rope between your feet to lock in your position
  • Reach higher with your hands and pull again, extending your legs to drive upward
  • Continue alternating hand and leg movements to climb the rope
  • Descend in a controlled manner, lowering hand over hand
