About this exercise

A myofascial release technique targeting the iliopsoas — the deep hip flexor complex connecting the lumbar spine to the femur. Rolling it out relieves tightness from prolonged sitting, improves hip extension range of motion, and can reduce lower back discomfort.

How to Perform

  • Lie face down on the floor and position the ball just inside the hip bone on one side
  • Prop yourself up on your forearms to control the amount of body weight on the ball
  • Breathe deeply and allow the pressure to gradually sink into the hip flexor
  • Slowly rock your hips side to side and forward and back to work through the muscle
  • Pause on any tender spots and hold for 20–30 seconds
  • Switch to the other side and repeat
