About this exercise

The ring split fly is a challenging bodyweight chest and shoulder exercise performed on gymnastic rings with a split stance for added stability. You support your body weight leaning forward while spreading the rings apart in a fly motion, stretching and contracting the pectoral muscles against your body weight.

How to Perform

  • Set gymnastic rings at chest height and grip one ring in each hand with a neutral grip
  • Step one foot forward and one foot back into a split stance for balance
  • Lean your body forward so your weight is supported by the rings with arms open wide
  • Keep a slight bend in your elbows and brace your core
  • Bring the rings together in front of your chest in a controlled fly motion
  • Hold the squeezed position briefly, then open your arms back to the starting position slowly
