About this exercise

The Ring Russian Dip is an advanced ring exercise that takes the standard ring dip deeper into a full pronation of the wrists, transitioning through an elbow support position on the rings. It develops extraordinary triceps strength, shoulder stability, and ring control as a prerequisite for skills like the ring muscle-up.

How to Perform

  • Start in a ring support position with arms straight and rings turned out
  • Lower yourself into a dip, bending at the elbows until your upper arms are parallel to the ground
  • Continue lowering by rotating the rings inward and letting your forearms come to rest on the rings
  • Pause briefly in the elbow support position, keeping your body upright
  • Press through the rings, rotating them outward as you push back up
  • Extend your arms fully to return to the support position with rings turned out
  • Perform each rep with control, avoiding swinging or kipping
