HardMiddle back

About this exercise

A gymnastic-ring variation of the straight-arm pullover that demands strong lat engagement and core stability. By keeping the arms nearly straight and sweeping the rings from overhead down to hip level, you load the lats and chest through a long range of motion with the added instability of the rings.

How to Perform

  • Set gymnastic rings slightly above head height and grasp them with both hands, palms facing down
  • Stand facing the anchor point with arms extended straight overhead
  • Hinge slightly at the hips and brace your core
  • Keeping the arms nearly straight, pull the rings down and back in a wide arc toward your hips
  • Squeeze the lats and chest at the bottom when the rings reach hip level
  • Slowly return the rings to the overhead starting position under full control
  • Avoid any swinging or jerking throughout the movement
