About this exercise

The Ring Mountain Climber is a dynamic core-conditioning exercise performed in a plank position on gymnastic rings. The unstable rings increase core activation and shoulder stability demands compared to a floor version, making it an effective full-body conditioning drill.

How to Perform

  • Place the rings on the floor or set them very low, grip them with both hands, and assume a high plank position
  • Straighten your body into a rigid line from head to heels, shoulders stacked over wrists
  • Brace your core and drive one knee toward your chest while keeping the other leg extended
  • Quickly switch legs, driving the opposite knee forward as you extend the first leg back
  • Continue alternating in a controlled but brisk rhythm
  • Keep your hips level and avoid letting them rise or sag during the movement
